Detailed Introduction
Radio Maipú was a community radio station based in Maipú, a commune in Santiago, Chile. It began broadcasting in 1962 and became an important platform for local news, culture, and grassroots communication. The station was known for its progressive stance and support of social movements, particularly during the government of Salvador Allende. In 1973, following the military coup, Radio Maipú was shut down by the dictatorship, and its facilities were raided. The station remains a symbol of resistance and community media in Chilean history.
