Detailed Introduction
The Mutual Broadcasting System (MBS) was an American radio network established in 1934 and became one of the "big four" national networks alongside NBC, CBS, and ABC. It was known for its cooperative ownership structure, with affiliated stations sharing programming and costs. Mutual gained prominence for programs like *The Lone Ranger*, *The Adventures of Superman*, and *Queen for a Day*, as well as for its extensive news coverage, including World War II broadcasts. Unlike its competitors, Mutual did not own and operate flagship stations, which contributed to its eventual decline in influence. The network ceased operations in 1999 after a series of ownership changes.
